Learn to Write Chinese Efficiently

You may have already attended many Chinese language courses. We have interviewed many overseas students who are studying Chinese now.
Tom is a senior high student coming from America. He said, “I have learned Chinese for almost two years in a Chinese language school, but I still find it difficult to write Chinese characters.”
So, in this class, we will come to talk about how to write Chinese characters in an efficient way. As we all know, Chinese characters do not belong to the Latin letters system. There are not apparent connection between the character itself and its pronunciation. For instance, the character “(wo3)” looks very complicated with so many strokes. However it just refers to “I” in English.
To increase the efficiency of remembering the Chinese characters, I introduce the associative memory to you. That is to say, you can divide the Chinese character into several parts, and put them into an associative situation. That will be beneficial for you to learn to write Chinese.
Specifically, do you know the character “(wai1)”? It means “slanting” in English. Let us divide this character into “(bu2)” and “(zheng4)”. “” is a negative word in Chinese. And “” means “neat or straight” in English. So when these two characters are combined together, we will get the phrase “不正(bu2 zheng4)”, which means “not neat or not straight”. Naturally, “not neat or not straight” is similar to “slating”. And in such a way, you can easily remember the character “(wai1)”.
There is another example for you. “(zhong4)” means “mass” in English. We usually say “民众(min2 zhong4)”, “大众(da4 zhong4)” or “观众(guan1 zhong4)”. When we take a close observation of the structure, we will find it is composed of three “(ren2)”. So, it is not hard for us to get the associative meaning——many people gathering tighter can make up a mass.
