“火锅” is what we call “hot pot”. Due to the differences
between Chinese and western culture, many foreigners may have not eaten it

Just as the Chinese character “火锅” indicates, it has something to do with fire and pot.
How do people make it?
And now, we are coming to the cooking method of it. Place
a pot on the fire first. And then add a lot of water in it with many condiments
and ingredients. You can buy them in supermarket. The most popular condiment is
“重庆火锅料(chong2 qing4 huo3 guo1 liao4)”. “重庆” and “四川” are
famous for their hot pots because their people are really found of pungent
taste.
The followings are some useful phrases in Chinese
hot pot eating, and they will be beneficial to our Chinese
character learning.
Do you know “锅底(guo1 di3)”? It literally means the bottom
of the pot. However, the real meaning is the soup of the hot pot. As for the “锅底”, we usually have some different taste
such as “微辣(wei1 la4), 中辣(zhong1 la4), and 重辣(zhong4 la4)”, which are different from each
other according to their level of pungency. When it comes to “锅底”, “鸳鸯锅(yuan1 yang1 guo1)” is often mentioned. The literal meaning
is “mandarin duck pot” but it does not mean the pot was made from mandarin
duck. Actually, it is a pot with two side of “锅底” including the pungent soup and also the light soup.
